Anwar arrives at Dataran Merdeka for Gaza solidarity event

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived at the Dataran Merdeka to attend a solidarity event for the ongoing Palestinian genocide.

At the rally, Anwar, wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh scarf, was immediately surrounded by a large crowd of Malaysians as soon as he arrived at 9.05pm.

The “Malam Himpunan dan Selawat Malaysiaku Bersama Gaza” at Dataran Merdeka was the last day of the Sumud Nusantara Convoy event.

Tens of thousands of Malaysians have gathered at the solidarity rally since 4pm in support of Gaza. Most of them, holding placards that read #GazaBangkit, were seen dressed in white as a symbol of Malaysian solidarity with the Palestinian struggle.

Anwar was expected to deliver a special address at 9.40pm.

Anwar would also launch and flag off the Sumud Nusantara Convoy, involving eight countries, which would move in two groups, departing on Aug 31 and Sept 4.

One of the two groups would depart for Spain and the other for Tunisia before both joined the Global Flotilla en route to Gaza.

The convoy would be the largest flotilla movement, involving dozens of ships and more than 50 countries.
