Thunderstorm warning issued for Pahang, Johor and Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected in parts of Pahang, Johor, and Sarawak, with warnings in effect until 12pm on Saturday (Aug 23), says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)

In Pahang, Kuantan is on alert for severe weather.

In Johor, areas including Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru are expected to be affected.

In Sarawak, regions such as Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong, Sarikei, Sibu (Kanowit), and Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro, Matu, and Dalat) are under the warning.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
