KUALA LUMPUR: The General Operations Force (GOF) arsenal has been bolstered with the arrival of four new armoured personnel carriers (APCs).
The handing over ceremony of the vehicles was conducted at Bukit Aman here on Friday (Aug 22) by Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.
Bukit Aman said in a statement that the vehicles cost RM10.72mil and were purchased under Rolling Plan 1 of the 12th Malaysia Plan.
Each IAG Guardian CEN Level B6 APC is capable of carrying eight passengers, and its features include ballistic protection, tactical safety features and run-flat tyres.
“The (GOF) armoured squadron plays an important role in providing protection and fire support during police operations,” the statement read.
Two vehicles will be assigned to the Central Brigade, while the South-East and North Brigades will receive one each.
According to Bukit Aman, the APCs will also be used for international security missions if needed.
