Cop killed in crash with suspected drunk driver


SEREMBAN: A 23-year-old policeman was killed after a car driver believed to be under the influence of alcohol crashed into him.

District OCPD Asst Comm Moha­mad Hatta Che Din said the policeman, who was on his motorcycle, died while receiving treatment at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident happened around 1am on Monday while the policeman was travelling from Seremban towards Temiang.

“The 26-year-old car driver, who was heading in the opposite direction, is believed to have lost control of his car and crashed into him,” he said in a statement.

ACP Mohamad Hatta said the car driver sustained light injuries and was detained.

“We have taken the driver’s blood sample and sent it to the Chemistry Department for analysis. We have also obtained an order to remand him for six days,” he said.

ACP Mohamad Hatta urged eyewitnesses to contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Shahrizan Khairi at 019-846 1792 or any police station to assist investigations.
