KUALA LUMPUR: Lawmakers from both sides of the political divide have united to condemn the recent attack on the family of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, calling it a cowardly attempt to silence a fellow MP.
Led by Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, more than a dozen PKR MPs held a joint press conference to denounce the incident, in which Rafizi’s 12-year-old son was stabbed with a syringe by unknown assailants.
“This is not just an attempt to instil fear but an act of unprecedented violence that defies human conscience.
“We support the Prime Minister’s stance that the law must be applied firmly and without compromise in such cases.
“Anyone found guilty must face the full consequences,” said the PKR vice-president at Parliament yesterday.
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin also led a group of Perikatan Nasional MPs in condemning the attack, pledging cross-party support to protect Rafizi and his family.
“This is not about whether we see eye to eye, but about seeking justice for the victims, regardless of whether we like each other or not,” he said.
“The opposition stands with the government in ensuring Rafizi’s safety. We hope the authorities will take all necessary measures so such incidents never happen again,” added Hamzah.
The bipartisan show of support comes after Rafizi’s son was attacked in a mall car park on Wednesday, followed by threats sent to his wife later.
