Specialist from Peninsular Malaysia to attend Zara Qairina’s post-mortem

KOTA KINABALU: The post-mortem on the body of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, 13, is set to begin following the arrival of a forensic pathology specialist from Peninsular Malaysia.

Lawyer Hamid Ismail said he and his client, Zara Qairina’s mother, Noraidah Lamat, 45, had received a half-hour briefing on the post-mortem process.

“The process will start after the body identification is completed, and at this point, the forensic specialist, Dr Khairul Anuar Zainun, has already arrived,” he said.

Hamid said the post-mortem will be conducted by Dr Khairul, from Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang, together with three other doctors.

“I believe the police want to ensure all aspects of justice for Zara Qairina. That is why a specialist from Peninsular Malaysia was brought in, to prevent any unfounded accusations and to ensure the process meets the highest standards,” he said.

Hamid added that Shahlan Jufri, a representative from the legal team, would also be present during the procedure, which could take between four and five hours, depending on the findings.

Once completed, doctors would brief Zara Qairina’s family on the results before police transported her body back to Sipitang for reburial.
