Suspects in Alor Setar cop's death remanded for seven days


ALOR SETAR: Police have obtained a seven-day remand order on four suspects alleged to have killed a policeman while they were fleeing the scene of a burglary in Taman Golf here on Thursday (Aug 7).

The order was granted by Magistrate Siti Nor Hasliza Md Ali when the suspects, aged 24 to 26, were brought to the Alor Setar Court Complex at 8.45am on Friday (Aug 8).

They will be in custody until Aug 14.

In the Thursday afternoon incident, Kpl Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, 35, was run over by a vehicle with several fleeing suspects on board when he arrived at the scene.

Kedah police chief Comm Adzli Abu Shah said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

It is believed that suspects were trying to steal a metal safe from a house in Taman Golf.

According to Bernama, one suspect was caught at the scene while the other three were arrested in Kepala Batas later after stealing a car.
