Man nabbed in Tawau for recording female housemate

KOTA KINABALU: An undocumented migrant has been arrested for allegedly recording his female housemate in her rented room in Tawau.

In the 10.30pm incident on Wednesday (July 23), the victim was in her room in Kampung Merotai Besar when she noticed a hand in the doorway, clutching a mobile phone with the camera pointed at her.

She shouted for help and the suspect fled the scene, Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said in a statement on Friday (July 25).

"A police report was lodged, and we managed to locate the 26-year-old suspect around the Merotai Besar town area,” he said.

The suspect attempted to flee, and a scuffle ensued, following which he was pinned down and arrested, ACP Jasmin said.

He added that a mobile phone was also seized.

ACP Jasmin said the man is being investigated for stalking and a suspected offence under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
