Greetings pour in for Dr M for his 100th birthday, including from PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has extended heartfelt prayers and well wishes to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on his 100th birthday.

Commending his example of healthy living and tireless devotion to charity, Anwar said both he and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, sincerely pray for Dr Mahathir to be continually blessed with good health, peace of mind, and strength.

"Tun's healthy lifestyle and unending devotional charity sets an example for a nation that is aging, but still has high hopes," Anwar said on social media on Thursday (July 10).

He added that Dr Mahathir’s life continues to inspire Malaysians, especially in maintaining meaningful contributions in later years.

"May Allah continue to bless Tun, God willing," he said.

In a post on X, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh wished Dr Mahathir: “Happy 100th Birthday.”

Former religious affairs minister Dr Zulkifli Mohamad, in a lengthy post on X, said how Mahathir, in his century of life, had not only witnessed history but also been a part of it.

“I was born in 1969, the year the nation faced riots and Tun began writing to awaken the people. Since childhood, Tun’s name has been familiar in the country’s discourse. Now, in my fifties, I still see Tun standing, speaking, and writing, and he continues to speak with the spirit of youth,” he wrote.

Zulkifli also wished Mahathir health, peace, and joy with his family and extended his thanks.

Former deputy education minister, P. Kamalanathan, in an Instagram post, shared a photo of himself and Mahathir shaking hands with the caption “One Hundred years young and still shining bright! Wishing you a fantastic birthday.”
