Sixteen Tambun PKR committee members convinced not to quit, claims Hulu Kinta rep

IPOH: 16 Tambun PKR committee members who won during the party's election at branch level have been persuaded from resigning, claims Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad.

The Hulu Kinta assemblyman said the 16, who hold a few key positions in the branch, have been advised to give their cooperation to the new branch chairman.

"They had wanted to tender their resignation.

"It's normal, as is human nature, to be disappointed with the (party election) results," he said in a press conference after a working visit to Taman Kinding Raya here on Tuesday (July 8).

"As their team leader, I asked them to cool down and to reconsider.

"I've advised them to focus on helping the people and also to prepare for the next general election, which are more important," he added.

In the polls held in April, Muhamad Arafat failed to retain his post as the branch chairman, having lost to Shamsul Kamar Ani.

Muhamad Arafat said his team had won the majority of the 46 posts contested, except for him and his deputy.

He said as a veteran of the party of 11 years, such matters are considered part and parcel of politics.

"It is normal to have these kinds of challenges. It's how we overcome them," he said.

"For now, my team members need to prioritise on helping resolve problems faced by the people while politics is secondary," he added.
