GEORGE TOWN: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has identified 845 cases for audit and enforcement action in the 10th Tax Compliance Operation, codenamed Ops Tanjong, conducted around Penang.
LHDN deputy chief executive officer (Compliance) Datuk Hisham Rusli said the operation, involving 238 officers, focused on key economic sectors, including manufacturing, electrical and electronics, digital and technology, logistics, contractors, and engineering.
He said inter-agency collaboration will continue to be strengthened as a vital element of effective and sustainable governance.
"The implementation of OP Tanjong demonstrates LHDN’s readiness to adapt its compliance strategies to the local economic landscape, without compromising the principles of fairness and transparency.
"We believe that integrated efforts like this will continue to be the foundation for a sustainable and transparent tax ecosystem, directly contributing to the country’s fiscal capacity to support the national development agenda," he said in a statement on Thursday (July 3).
He said the decision to conduct the operation in the state is a continuation of the LHDN’s targeted initiative to strengthen fiscal accountability and ensure that fairness in the tax system is effectively implemented at the grassroots level.
Six key activities were carried out during the operation, including tax audits, verification of taxpayer information, strategic compliance, collections, enforcement of stamp duty, and legal action.
The approach also emphasises education by engaging directly with taxpayers to raise awareness of their rights and responsibilities within the national tax system. - Bernama
