Two men killed, baby among nine injured in five-vehicle Kota Tinggi crash


KOTA TINGGI: A five-vehicle collision near Felda Pasak along Jalan Desaru–Kota Tinggi here has killed two men, while nine others including a baby survived.

Kota Tinggi Fire and Rescue chief Mohd Shawaluddin Ami Nordin said an emergency call was received at 4.17pm on Saturday (June 28), and six firemen were deployed to the scene.

"The accident involved five vehicles, including four cars and a lorry.

"Eleven people were involved in the incident, including two men aged 69 and 74 years old, who were travelling in one of the cars," he said in a statement.

He added that the two victims were found trapped in the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.

"The victims' bodies were then handed over to the police and the Health Department for further action.

"Nine other victims, including a seven-month-old baby, survived the crash, with a male car driver sustaining minor injuries to his right leg," he said.

Mohd Shawaluddin added that the nine survivors had exited their vehicles before the arrival of the firemen and received initial treatment from health department.

Meanwhile, Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman confirmed that the police had received a report on the incident and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He added that the lorry driver and one of the car drivers have been detained to assist in investigation.
