Nine-year-old girl dies from alleged abuse in Melaka


MELAKA: A nine-year-old girl has died after allegedly being abused by her stepfather at their home in Taman Kota Laksamana here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the incident came to light at around 9.45am on Monday (June 23) when police received a call from a private hospital reporting suspected abuse after the victim was brought in by her stepfather for treatment.

He said doctors who examined the girl found she had suffered a broken leg as well as bruises on her head and body.

ACP Christopher Patit said the victim died at the private hospital’s emergency ward a few minutes later.

He said a report was lodged at Bandar Hilir police station on the same day.

He added that police will update the latest development on the case once the investigation has been completed.
