Actor-singer Naim Daniel denies sex with minor

PUTRAJAYA: Singer and actor Naim Daniel, who has been charged with sexual assault, vows to clear his name in court.

The 28-year-old, whose full name is Muhammad Na’im Daniel Baharin, pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here yesterday to a charge of sexually assaulting an underaged girl.

In the closed door proceedings, Na’im claimed trial to a charge of sexually assaulting the 17-year-old teenager at a hotel in Jalan Harapan, Petaling Jaya, at 8.56pm on May 19.

He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act, which provides for a maximum 20 years’ imprisonment and also liable for whipping, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin offered bail at RM15,000 with conditions.

She asked the court to impose an order for the accused to surrender his passport and not to harass the prosecution witnesses in any way.

Sessions Court judge M. Kunasundary fixed bail at RM12,000 in one surety and allowed the prosecution’s application on additional conditions.

She ordered the accused to surrender his passport and for Na’im not to come near the witnesses.

The case is fixed for mention on Aug 18.

Na’im paid the bail.

Speaking to the press after the proceedings ended, Na’im asked for no interference in the case and that he was leaving it to the justice system.

“I have just been charged with a serious allegation.

“I know there are a lot of questions and that this is shocking but I do not wish to comment further,” he said.

Na’im is known for his roles in the TV series Projek: High Council, Lelaki Lingkungan Cinta and I.D.

In 2020, he won for Best Song at the 34th Anugerah Juara Lagu.
