Lorry driver killed in three-vehicle crash on NSE


BATU PAHAT: A 34-year-old lorry driver has died in a crash involving three lorries along the North-South Expressway near here on Thursday (June 12).

Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Hafiz Othman said the accident, which took place at KM81.9 on the southbound lane of the expressway, was reported at 8.33am.

“Three heavy vehicles were involved in the crash - an eight-tonne lorry, a tanker lorry and a trailer lorry.

“Following the crash, the driver of the trailer lorry was injured and got trapped in the vehicle,” he said in a statement.

He added that the injured victim was extricated from the vehicle using specialised equipment and was later pronounced dead by a Health official.

The drivers of the other two heavy vehicles, aged 37 and 42 respectively, managed to escape unhurt, said Mohd Hafiz.
