Driver arrested for drug use after Kluang accident


KLUANG: Police have arrested a personal driver who tested positive for drugs following an accident here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 40-year-old man was arrested at 6.30am on Friday (June 6) after testing positive for methamphetamine.

"The suspect was driving towards Kluang town from Taman Sri Kluang and suddenly veered into the opposite lane. He then collided head-on with another car that was travelling in the lane," he said in a statement.

ACP Bahrin stated that the suspect escaped unharmed while the other driver, a 36-year-old businessman, suffered injuries to his hands and some abdominal pain.

"The suspect was brought to the Kluang police headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division for a urine test where he tested positive for methamphetamine," he said, adding that the man has four criminal records.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for self-administering dangerous drugs.
