28 passengers safe after bus fire following motorcycle collision


IPOH: Twenty-eight passengers narrowly escaped a fiery crash after an express bus caught fire following a collision with a motorcycle along the north-south expressway near Kamunting.

All 28 passengers escaped unhurt, while the motorcyclist sustained minor injuries.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad reported that a distress call was made around 9.16pm on Thursday (May 29).

He said the incident occurred at KM406 of the northbound lane of the expressway

“The motorcycle, which is believed to have skidded, was dragged by the bus, triggering the fire.

“The blaze destroyed approximately 90% of the bus. Fortunately, all 28 passengers were successfully evacuated before firefighters arrived at the scene.

“One motorcyclist sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit,” he said in a statement.

“The fire was brought under control by 10.15pm and the operation concluded at 10.33pm.

“Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident,” he added.
