GEORGE TOWN: State PKR vice chairman Fahmi Zainol says he will serve in the state executive councillor position until the end of his term.
He stated that despite losing in the recent central party election, he was entrusted by the party with his current position and would fulfil his responsibilities.
“No, I have no plans to resign. My principle is that if the party appoints me, I will serve until the end of my term. I am committed to following the party's directive,” he said on Thursday (May 29).
The state agrotechnology, food security and cooperative development committee chairman said he is a party man and, as such, will heed any directive from the party.
He also denied there was any pressure for him to quit his position.
"So far, the situation on the ground is calm.
"What we all want is political stability, which is why I abide by the party's rules," he said.
Fahmi was known to be aligned with Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad during the recently concluded party election, where both Rafizi and Nik Nazmi lost.
On Wednesday (May 28), Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad announced their resignations from Cabinet, effective June 17 and July 4, respectively, following their defeats in the 2025 PKR party elections held last week.
Rafizi failed to retain his position as PKR deputy president after losing to Nurul Izzah Anwar, while Nik Nazmi lost in the contest for a vice-president post.
The Prime Minister's Office, in a statement Wednesday night, said Anwar had received letters from Rafizi and Nik Nazmi requesting leave and resignation from their Cabinet posts.
The office stated that the Prime Minister had approved both leave applications and that any further decisions on their resignations would be announced later.
