Liverpool fan club in Ipoh to have open-top bus parade following Red's EPL win

IPOH: An open-top bus parade will be held here to "paint the town red" in commemoration of Liverpool Football Club's Premier League win this season.

Edwin Seibel Nathan, a representative of Ipoh Kop End, a group of supporters of the Reds here that was organising the parade, said it would be the first time it would be held by a fan club in Malaysia to celebrate the historic win.

Edwin Seibel said the parade would be held on May 25.

"Perak Transit Ipoh has generously provided us with the 'Hop-on, Hop-off' bus for the parade.

"There will be two sessions, one from 6.15pm to 7.15pm and the second one from 7.30pm to 8.30pm," he said when contacted.

"The starting point will be at Ipoh Padang near the HSBC building.

"The parade will pass through Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, the Ipoh Railway Station, Ipoh Old Town, Birch Memorial Clock Tower, before returning to Ipoh Padang," he added.

Liverpool has won the Premier League, its 20th English league title, after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at the end of last month.

The trophy lifting ceremony is expected to be held at their home ground in Anfield, England, after the final league match against Crystal Palace on Sunday (May 25).

Edwin Seibel said a mock Premier League trophy would be brought aboard the bus for the celebrations.

"The bus will also be decorated with banners related to Liverpool.

"Datuk M. Karathu, the former coach of the Perak football team and lifelong supporter of Liverpool, will also be joining us as our guest of honour," he said.

"All attendees are encouraged to dress in their finest Liverpool red kits," he added.

Edwin Seibel said the parade is held primarily for its group members, open to the first 72 people who sign up.

He said seats on the bus were limited, with only 36 people allowed on the bus per session.

"It will be on a first-come, first-served basis with a fee of RM50 for one session.

"The fee also entitles the members to a lucky draw during a live viewing of the final match at a food and beverage premises," he said.

"We are still finalising the details for the venue," he added.

Edwin Seibel said those interested in joining the parade and celebrations could directly message them on their "KOP END IPOH YNWA" Facebook page.

When asked about his mood to Liverpool winning the league title, Edwin Seibel said, "Obviously, it's good and proud being back on top of our perch".
