Party not short on emerging talents, says Zaliha
KUALA LUMPUR: The PKR national election for the 2025-2028 term will see a crowded race with 251 candidates vying for various party leadership posts.
PKR central election committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa (pic) said nominations included 104 candidates for the central leadership council (MPP), 85 for the youth wing leadership council and 62 for the women’s wing leadership council.
“This encouraging participation proves that PKR is not short on emerging talents.
“It reinforces the party’s position as a platform that continuously empowers new leaders and strengthens internal democracy,” she said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.
The two-day nomination process ended on Friday.
Dr Zaliha said objection period is today and Monday, while those who want to submit appeals can do so on Tuesday and Wednesday.
She said the final list of candidates will be confirmed on May 15, with official campaigning commencing immediately and ending at 11.59pm on May 22.
She advised all candidates to conduct themselves with dignity and respect during the campaign period.
“This election must serve as a unifying moment, reinforcing the party’s foundation of familial camaraderie,” she said, adding that the committee appreciated the commitment shown by all candidates and members in ensuring a smooth, transparent and principled election process.
With Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim returned unopposed as PKR president with nominations having closed, the deputy presidency will see a straight fight between incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who is Economy Minister, and former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

They include the four incumbents – Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad; Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang; Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, who is political secretary to the Finance Minister, is the sole candidate nominated for the youth chief post, while the wanita chief post will be contested by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail.
The PKR national congress will take place from May 22 to 24 in Johor Baru.
