Negri Immigration nabs 102 undocumented foreigners in Bukit Kepayang ops

SEREMBAN: The Immigration Department has detained 102 undocumented foreigners in an operation here.

State Immigration chief Kennith Tan Ai Kiang said the foreigners were caught in construction sites in Bukit Kepayang near here on Tuesday (May 7) morning.

"We had screened 130 foreigners and 102 aged between 15 and 33 years old were found to have violated provisions under the country's Immigration laws.

"Ninety-three were men while the rest were women," he said in a statement.

The majority of those detained were Indonesians (55), Bangladeshis (29), Myanmar nationals (17) and Pakistani (one).

He said in their bid to escape, some foreigners even jumped from 6m high platforms.

However, they were eventually nabbed.

Tan said the operation was carried out following public complaints.

The illegals, he said, did not have valid travel documents or work permits or had overstayed, among others.

They were later sent to the Immigration depot in Lenggeng.

"We urge the public to report to us if they have information or suspect the presence of undocumented foreigners in their area.

"We would again wish to remind employers not to hire undocumented foreigners as this is a serious offence," he added.
