Duo slapped with multiple charges for throwing Molotov cocktails, animal cruelty

IPOH: Two men are facing multiple joint charges for throwing Molotov cocktails at several houses here and in Kampar.

Delivery rider Kok Wan Liang, 37, and Taiwanese national Lin Jia He, 26, were jointly charged five times under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire at two Sessions Courts here on Friday (May 2).

Before judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad, they were accused of throwing two petrol-based Molotov cocktails with the intention to cause damage at a house in Taman Bandar Baru, Kampar at 4.20am on April 10.

They were also accused of the same offence at the compound of a house in Kampung Baru Kuala Kuang at 2.50am the same day.

Lin, who is jobless, faces a separate charge of committing the same offence at a house in Panorama Lapangan Perdana just before 1pm on March 25.

Lin claimed trial while Kok pleaded guilty to all the charges.

Ainul granted bail to both accused with one surety for all the charges, setting Lin's bail at RM15,000 and Kok's at RM10,000.

Lin's bail was to be paid by a Malaysian, the judge instructed, before setting July 23 for mention of the case.

DPP RS Vitthiyeswary prosecuted, while Lin was represented by lawyer RR Segaran. Kok was unrepresented.

Before judge Azizah Ahmad, the men were jointly slapped with two charges for throwing a Molotov cocktail into the compound of the Panorama Lapangan Perdana house on April 2 and 4.

They were also charged under Section 436 for a similar offence at a house in Taman Bandar Baru Kampar at about 12.30am on April 8.

They face a further charge under Section 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 for causing unnecessary suffering to an 11-year-old dark brown Rottweiler during the April 2 incident in Panorama Lapangan Perdana.

Kok pleaded guilty while Lin claimed trial to all the charges.

Azizah set bail at RM15,000 for Lin with one surety, while Kok was denied bail for all the charges.

She also ordered Lin to surrender his passport to the court pending disposal of all the cases, and fixed July 23 for case mention.

DPP NM Moganaraj Mithra prosecuted.
