MADRID (Bernama/dpa): Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is set to leave the club and take charge of the Brazil national team until the 2026 World Cup, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.

The Athletic website, citing anonymous sources, reported that the Italian had already informed the players in the dressing room about his planned departure.

The Athletic, British broadcaster Sky, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano say Ancelotti will already be managing the Seleção during international matches in June.

He would therefore no longer be able to coach Madrid at the Club World Cup, scheduled from June 14 to July 13 in the United States.

The Spanish sports newspaper Marca reported that verbal agreements are in place, with only the signature missing.

Ancelotti, 65, is under contract with Madrid until 2026. However, his departure is expected due to recent setbacks, such as the Champions League quarterfinal exit and the loss in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

Bayer Leverkusen's title-winning coach Xabi Alonso, who previously played for Madrid, is being widely tipped as his successor.

Ancelotti has been coaching Madrid for a second stint since 2021, during which time he has won the Champions League twice.
