Ayer Kuning folk give warm welcome to newly elected assemblyman

BIDOR: The people in Kg Baru Coldstream have given a warm reception towards the soon-to-be sworn-in Ayer Kuning assemblyman, Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir.

MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the positive reception was evident from the people's body language.

"We can see the very lively and warm response based on the body language.

"We see in terms of support, the results of voters in this area have given 89% support to Dr Yusri," he told reporters during his visit to Kg Baru Coldstream along with Dr Yusri here, on Tuesday (April 29).

He also said that the voters here are confident in Dr Yusri's track record because, despite being newly elected, Dr Yusri had long been active in the area, assisting the late YB Ishsam as the Umno division secretary and Tapah district councillor.

Dr Mah added that today’s visit was part of an effort to thank the voters, especially in one of the key areas of Ayer Kuning.

"Dr Yusri understands the people and the place here well.

"He will continue to meet more people. I am fully confident that he will shoulder this responsibility with excellence and full commitment," said Dr Mah.

Meanwhile, Dr Yusri said that he had accepted the mandate given to him as a responsibility and trust, aligned with the vision and manifesto he had pledged, especially towards promoting racial harmony and safeguarding unity.

"We firmly reject any form of extremism or those who seek to sow division among the races, particularly within the Ayer Kuning constituency," he said.

Speaking about the visit, Dr Yusri expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from the residents here, describing it as an encouragement and motivation to continue implementing the planned development initiatives.

He also added that he had heard concerns from locals, including the need for better water pressure and, installation of more streetlights.

The by-election was called following the death of incumbent assemblyman, Tapah Umno chief Ishsam Shahruddin, in February.

Tapah Umno secretary Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir secured 11,065 votes, defeating Perikatan Nasional's Abd Muhaimin Malek and KS Bawani of Parti Sosialis Malaysia with a majority of 5,006 votes in the Ayer Kuning by-election.

Abd Muhaimin garnered 6,059 votes, while Bawani received 1,106.
