KOTA KINABALU: A former secretary of an association is expected to be charged with graft on Wednesday for allegedly submitting falsified documents to secure government funds.
The RM85,000 special allocation was meant to come from the Sabah Chief Minister's office for the construction of the association's administrative office.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah arrested the man, who is in his 50s, when he came to the state office around 9.40am on Tuesday (April 22).
Sources said the suspect, who is also a suspended headmaster, had purportedly submitted the false documents in an attempt to obtain funds meant for the association, located in the same district where he worked.
“The suspect, who has already been charged with eight counts under Sections 471 and 107(c) of the Penal Code on May 21, 2024, is currently undergoing trial for those offences,” a source said.
Sabah MACC director Datuk S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest when contacted, saying the suspect will be charged under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 at the Kota Kinabalu Special Corruption Sessions Court on Wednesday morning.
