Self-employed man arrested for trespassing at Gerik army camp

IPOH: Police have arrested a 50-year-old self-employed man for trespassing into an army reserve force camp in Kompeni C, Second Battalion, 503 Regiment of the Gerik territorial Army (Askar Wataniah Gerik).

Gerik OCPD Supt Zulkifli Mahmood said that the suspect, identified as "Mat," committed the offence on Tuesday (April 8) at 8.45am.

"A police report was received from a 42-year old military volunteer at 9.09am on the same day.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that while the complainant was in the camp, he saw the suspect inside the fenced area and is believed to have spray-painted on the building wall with the words 'no entry without permission’, "he said in a statement today.

"When approached by the complainant, the suspect raised his voice, claiming the land belonged to him and told the complainant to leave the area ‘if he (the complainant) didn't want to get hurt’,” he added.

Supt Zulkifli said acting on the information, the police arrested the suspect at about 2.35pm on the same day.

Following the arrest, he said items believed to have been used to breach the fence were seized.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code for trespassing.

He added that the suspect would be brought to court to obtain a remand order.

"Further investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the investigating officer, Sjn Muhamad Suwadi Mohd at 016-8804375," he added.
