KUCHING: Steps are being taken to ensure no power supply disruption in the Klang Valley in the wake of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, says Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the incident could affect the power supply as some power plants use gas to generate power.
"When there is a leak, the affected pipeline will be closed down and this may affect power supply.
"But the report I have received so far is that we can still ensure a stable power supply for this week," he told reporters at his Raya open house here on Wednesday (April 2).
Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said his ministry was looking into appropriate measures if gas cannot be supplied to the affected power stations next week.
"PETRONAS will look for ways to supply the gas. If necessary, we will look into reviving old power stations that do not use gas to ensure that power supply in the Klang Valley is not disrupted," he said.
Fadillah also said electricity cables were not affected so far but an integrity audit was being carried out to monitor the situation.
"We want to ensure that the integrity of the whole infrastructure is not affected," he said.
He also expressed sympathy to the victims of the incident, adding that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had visited the site and announced assistance measures.
