Driver rams into five vehicles resulting in injuries near JB

JOHOR BARU: A 41-year-old driver, who could not brake her car in time, rammed into five other vehicles along a busy road in Skudai here, resulting in injuries.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said the accident took place at KM8 of Jalan Johor Baru-Air Hitam at 12.30pm on Friday (March 28).

“The driver was heading towards Skudai from Johor Baru when she hit a black multi-purpose vehicle in front of her, about to cut into the left lane of the main road.

“This caused the black vehicle, driven by a 55-year-old man, to hit a concrete road divider on the far right before ramming into a continental car, a van and two sport utility vehicles along the way,” he said in a statement on Saturday (March 29).

He added that the 55-year-old broke his ribs in the incident while the 41-year-old driver sustained injuries to her chest, and both were treated at a hospital.

The other drivers, aged 29 to 48 years old, escaped unhurt during the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving recklessly and without consideration, which carries a fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to 12 months upon conviction.
