Car carrying firecrackers catches fire at busy intersection in Lumut

IPOH: A car carrying firecrackers in its trunk caught fire at a busy intersection in Bukit Permata, Lumut.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman stated that the incident occurred on Friday (March 28) at about 5.30pm.

He said that at the scene, police found the car's rear section engulfed in flames.

"Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle had suffered mechanical damage prior to the fire.

"The driver, attempting to restart the car, noticed smoke coming from the rear tyre, which quickly escalated into flames, further exacerbated by a series of firecracker explosions," he said in a statement on Saturday (March 29).

Asst Comm Hasbullah mentioned that the driver had stored the firecrackers for Hari Raya in the vehicle’s trunk.

"The local fire department responded promptly and successfully brought the fire under control.

"Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident," he added.
