Public urged not to obstruct garbage trucks during Hari Raya season

MELAKA: Solid waste company - SWM Environment is appealing for the cooperation of revellers not to obstruct garbage trucks while visiting friends and family during Hari Raya's festive season.

SWM Environment’s Corporate General Manager, Norlisam Mohd Nordin said this is to ensure that all waste collection operations could go on smoothly and efficiently.

"In line with ensuring seamless garbage collection, SWM Environment has deployed 900 workers during this Hari Raya season.

"Previously, our team has given feedback that their trucks faced difficulties to manoeuvre at streets where revellers blocked their paths," he said on Wednesday (March 26).

Meanwhile, Norlisam said a special operation would focus on 76 centralised waste bin hotspot locations across the state from March 28 to April 3, 2025.

“The identified areas include 37 locations under the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB), 14 under the Alor Gajah Municipal Council (MPAG), 19 under the Jasin Municipal Council (MPJ), and 6 under the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ).

“The number of hotspot locations has decreased from 78 last year, indicating that waste management among the public is improving,” he said.

Norlisam also emphasised the importance of public cooperation to ensure smooth waste collection operations.

He also noted that apart from scheduled waste collection, SWM Environment will also conduct cleaning operations in city centres, recreational beaches, food courts, markets and public restrooms to ensure a high level of cleanliness.
