Flood situation improves in Johor as evacuee numbers drop

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor is decreasing as the weather improves, allowing evacuees to return to their homes.

The Johor Disaster Management Committee reported that as of 4pm on Tuesday (March 25), only two districts, Batu Pahat and Pontian, remain affected by floods.

"As of 4pm, a total of 909 people from 274 families are still housed at 10 temporary relief centres (PPS) in both districts.

"Batu Pahat has the highest number of victims, with 617 people from 191 families, while Pontian has 292 people from 83 families," the committee said in a statement.

The PPS with the highest number of evacuees is SMK Suria Perdana in Ayer Hitam, Batu Pahat, which currently shelters 293 people.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm alert for Tangkak, Muar, and Batu Pahat, which is expected to last until 5pm on Tuesday.
