Smuggler’s chicken run foiled by authorities

KOTA KINABALU: An attempt to smuggle over RM740,000 worth of frozen chicken into Beluran has been prevented by the 20th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF).

Sabah GOF brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Datuk Abdul Rani Alias said the poultry was uncovered when officers stopped a refrigerated lorry for a routine check at the Sapi Nangoh checkpoint at around 9pm on Saturday.

“Upon inspection, we found the lorry transporting 1,360 boxes of frozen chicken without valid documents.

The seized contraband is valued at RM740,500,” SAC Abdul Rani revealed.

Three men were arrested during the operation, codenamed Ops Taring Chiller.

Authorities are investigating the case under Section 15(1) of the Sabah Animal Welfare Enactment 2015.

SAC Abdul Rani reaffirmed the GOF’s commitment to cracking down on illicit activities that threaten national security and the economy.
