Ops Samseng Jalanan: 90 fines issued for various offences


BUKIT MERTAJAM: A total of 90 summonses were issued for various offences following an integrated traffic operation dubbed Ops "Samseng Jalanan" here.

Central Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Helmi Aris said the operation was carried out from 10pm to 7am on Saturday (March 22) and Sunday (March 23) at KM 131 to KM 135 of the north-south highway northbound.

"In the operation, 200 motorcyclists were screened and from the total, 30 motorcycles were seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement on Sunday (March 23).

ACP Helmi said the operation, which was headed by the Penang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, also involved officers and personnel from expressway mobile patrol vehicles (EMPV), PLUS, the National Anti-Drug Agency, and the environment department.

He said during the operation, the environment department conducted sound tests on the motorcycles and issued four compounds.

ACP Helmi also said that five individuals were detained after being tested positive for drugs.

The police issued a stern warning to the public to refrain from engaging in any illegal racing activities and to always comply with traffic laws.
