KUALA LUMPUR: A man who robbed a jewellery shop at a supermarket in Kota Damansara was apprehended within 12 hours of the incident.
According to Selangor police chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the suspect, 32, believed to be a local, used a pistol during the robbery at 4.56pm on Saturday (March 22).
"The suspect stole seven trays of jewellery on display before fleeing in a car waiting outside the supermarket, with losses estimated at RM2mil.
"Through intelligence and information, police from the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters and the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters arrested the suspect around 10.15pm on the same day in Bukit Beruntung, Hulu Selangor," he said in a statement on Sunday (March 23).
Hussein stated that police also recovered the stolen jewellery and identified the suspect's accomplice in the incident.
He explained that the suspect is currently detained at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters for further investigation under Section 4 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for robbery using a firearm.
