Three killed, five hurt in Bintulu car-lorry crash


BINTULU: Three people were killed and five others injured in a collision between a car and a three-tonne lorry at Jalan Persisir Bintulu-Samalaju here on Tuesday (March 11)

The dead from the car have been identified as Nur Azalea Zakiah Jiben, 44, Ariana Juana Helda, 22, and Simon Hiu, 39.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement that the Kidurong station received a distress call at 6.50am.

"The 41-year old driver of the lorry managed to get out of the vehicle on his own despite sustaining a broken leg.

"Three people in the car were killed at the scene while two men inside were seriously hurt.

"Two other people in the lorry suffered minor injuries," the statement read.

The victims' bodies were extricated with special rescue tools and handed over to police for further action, it added.
