Dr Anesee Ibrahim clocks in as new Higher Education Ministry sec-gen


PUTRAJAYA: The new Higher Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Anesee Ibrahim has reported for duty on Monday (March 10).

Anesee replaces Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang, who went on mandatory retirement on March 3.

The ministry, in a statement, said that Anesee was welcomed upon his arrival by deputy secretary-general (management and development) Datuk Mohamad Azhan Md Amir and the ministry’s top management before officially clocking in to symbolically begin his duties.

"He then proceeded to hold a meeting with the Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir," the statement read.

Anesee, who holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Durham University, United Kingdom, previously served as Public Services (Development) deputy director-general. He is also an alumnus of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)//Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM) at the Master's, Bachelor's and diploma levels.

Starting his public service career in 1994 as a diplomatic and administrative officer, Anesee has worked in several departments and ministries, including the Public Service Department and the Education Ministry.

He has also served as the Permanent Delegate of Malaysia to UNESCO Paris, France.

According to the ministry, Anesee has extensive public administration experience as well as in the education sector.

"With his appointment, it is hoped that he can further strengthen the higher education development agenda in line with the Madani government's aspirations in ensuring a quality, inclusive and globally competitive higher education system," it said. - Bernama
