Elderly man found dead after three days missing in Menggatal


Rescuers trekked 1km uphill to retrieve the victim, using a rope system for the operation.

KOTA KINABALU: A 77-year-old man who had been missing for three days was found dead near a stream in Kampung Tombongon, Menggatal, on Monday (March 3).

Lintas Fire and Rescue Station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said a team of nine, led by operations commander Selvister Yamud, was dispatched following a 1.20pm emergency call from the villagers who discovered the victim.

He said firefighters, along with police and health officials, arrived at the scene at 2.05pm.

Agustavia added that rescuers trekked 1km uphill to reach the victim, who was then carried out using a rope system.

Medical personnel confirmed the man was dead at the scene, and his body was handed over to the police for further investigation.

Authorities believe the victim fell near a stream, but the exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

The operation concluded at 4.50pm.
