College student gets 240 hours of community service for raping underaged girl

SEREMBAN: A 19-year-old college student has been ordered to undergo 240 hours of community service within 12 months after he pleaded guilty at the Session Court here to a charge of raping an underage girl.

Muhammad Amirullah Zaazuren, who did not contest the charge, was also told to deposit RM4,000 collateral with the court and to adhere to several other conditions by Judge Surita Budin.

"You are also to report at the nearest police station on the first of every month during the period and to attend counselling.

"If you move to another place, you are to notify the Welfare Department," she said.

Amirullah was charged with raping the victim who was three months short of her 15th birthday at a house in Jempol just past midnight on Dec 30 last year.

He was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.

After an officer from the Welfare Department had tabled a social report, Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni told the court the accused had committed a serious offence and to impose a punishment which commensurate the crime.

However, the accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a minimal punishment in the form of a low bond amount as his mother already had to service bank loans.

Judge Surita also warned the accused that if he failed to complete his community service or violated any other conditions, he would be brought back to court and charged under the principal offence.

"The court will also forfeit the RM4,000 collateral if you do not adhere to all the conditions," she added.
