Five men fined RM2,000 each in assault case, one claims trial


KEMAMAN: Five men plead guilty of assaulting a disabled man at a morning market, here were fined RM2,000 each, while another claimed trial at the Kemaman Sessions Court on Monday (Feb 24).

Kemaman District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli, stated that all suspects were previously investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

"On Monday, six individuals detained in connection with the case were charged at the Kemaman Magistrate's Court. Five men pleaded guilty, while another requested a trial," he said.

"Those who pleaded guilty were sentenced to a fine of RM2,000 each, which they have paid."

He advised the public not to make unfounded statements and speculations, emphasizing that the police will ensure the investigation is conducted transparently and fairly.

Previously, Sinar Harian reported an incident where a man was assaulted in front of a crowd at the Jalan Padang Astaka Morning Market, Chukai, Kemaman, around 9.30am.

Initial investigations revealed the incident occurred when the victim, riding a motorcycle, entered the sales area and collided with a stall, causing items to fall and scatter on the road.

Following this, several individuals at the scene allegedly assaulted the victim.
