RM786mil e-waste seized


PETALING JAYA: A total of 105 people were detained while e-waste worth RM786.1mil was seized following a series of raids in five states.

In Kuala Lumpur, General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Hakemal Hawari said 12 raids were conducted in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor in an operation codenamed “Ops Hazard” recently.

From the 12 raids, 47 people, mostly foreigners, were detained while e-waste worth RM721mil was seized.

“Seven raids were in Selangor, two each in Negri Sembilan and Johor, and one in Melaka.

“Those detained were five locals and 42 foreigners. The foreigners were from Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China and Singapore,” he said in a statement yesterday.

In Kota Kinabalu, a total of 58 people were arrested by the Sabah GOF after being caught with e-waste worth RM65.1mil.
