JOHOR BARU: The Johor Green Development Committee has approved three policies on environmental sustainability during its first meeting recently, says Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Onn Hafiz said the three policies involved renewable energy, green transportation, and addressing climate change, particularly floods.
“The three policies include the Johor Renewable Energy Policy 2030 and the Johor Renewable Energy Planning and Development Guidelines, which focus on empowering solar energy as the primary energy source for a cleaner future.
“We have also approved the Johor Green Transportation Policy and the Planning and Development Guidelines for Electric Vehicle Charging Bays, which introduce measures to promote green mobility.
“Another policy is the Johor Climate Change Policy (Flood Mitigation) 2030 and the Flood Early Warning System Guidelines, which emphasise integrated actions to address climate change challenges and enhance flood preparedness in Johor,” he said.
Onn Hafiz said he hopes the outcome of the meeting will help the state achieve its Johor Green Vision Goal 2030.
“The cooperation of all parties, especially local authorities, developers, and government agencies, is crucial for the successful implementation of the policies,” he said.
On Wednesday (Feb 12), Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the policies include a target to have over 15,000 electric vehicles (EV) and 1,245 EV charging stations by 2030, as well as some 600 megawatts of renewable energy by 2030.
The Johor Green Development Committee was formed last year to oversee discussions and policy-making on renewable energy and sustainability.
