Opening up trade gateways

SHAH ALAM: More private investment into logistics infrastructure and hubs could be a catalyst for Malaysia’s logistics ecosystem growth, says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister said the private sector plays a crucial role in advancing national logistics capabilities through its ability to identify and construct logistics hubs in strategic locations near key gateways into the country.

“As the global supply chain evolves, we must continue to enhance our logistical infrastructure together to remain as a preferred investment destination.

“With the logistics industry as our country’s backbone, the government remains committed to enabling a seamless, technology-driven logistics ecosystem which enhances supply chain efficiency and supports our sustainable growth agenda.

“But this can only be achieved with private sector support, especially with the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project set to provide increased demand for logistical infrastructure when it is completed in 2027,” he said in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new private logistics hub here yesterday.

Located less than 10km from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang Airport) in the town of Elmina here, Loke said the new logistics hub’s strategic location is one such example of the private sector’s capability to plan and build logistics infrastructure in strategic locations across the country.

“Located within Selangor’s growth corridor, it enhances logistical connectivity to Port Klang, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and other major transport networks.

“Once the ECRL is built, I also expect this logistics hub to be of service in utilising the rail’s potential to further boost our logistical capabilities,” he said.

He added that the new logistics hub and others like it would be instrumental in facilitating smoother trade flows and reducing supply chain bottlenecks, which ultimately benefit the people directly through easier access and potentially lower costs.

“I would like to encourage all stakeholders to continue fostering collaboration, innovation and investment in Malaysia’s logistics sector for the benefit of all,” he added.
