Anwar, Qatar PM discuss latest Gaza developments in late night phone call

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a phone call late last night from his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Thani, regarding the latest situation in Gaza.

The Prime Minister said, in a Facebook post Wednesday (Feb 12), that things discussed during the phone call included the deliberate violation of ceasefire terms by the Israeli regime to undermine the agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States.

"I also praised the tireless efforts made by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed to immediately halt the atrocities by the Zionist regime against the people of Gaza and achieve lasting peace.

"I reiterated Malaysia's continuous commitment to steadfastly support every initiative, including providing humanitarian aid while aiming to end the Israeli occupation and illegal settlement in Gaza,” he posted.

On Tuesday (Feb 11), speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who was on an official visit to Malaysia, Anwar had also stressed that Malaysia would continue its efforts to support Palestine but warned against superficial diplomatic manoeuvres that fail to address the root cause of the conflict. - Bernama
