Saifuddin yet to decide on contesting in PKR polls

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has yet to decide if he will be contesting any post in the PKR party polls in May.

"I will perform the istikhara prayers (to seek guidance in making decisions) first.

"Do you have any suggestions?" the Home Minister said at a press conference at ministry headquarters here on Monday (Feb 10) when asked if he was eyeing any post in the party.

He was appointed PKR secretary-general in 2010.

After losing the election for deputy president to Rafizi Ramli in 2022, the former Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP was reappointed to his secretary-general role.

In September last year, Fuziah Salleh took over as secretary-general.

The party’s central leadership also established a management committee, with Saifuddin as its adviser.

The committee includes vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, Fuziah, treasurer-general William Leong, deputy PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim, and deputy Wanita PKR chief Juwairiya Zulkifli.

PKR has hinted that it may not allow the positions of president and deputy president to be contested during the party elections.

Its international bureau chairman Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said the proposal was based on internal discussions and feedback from previous consultations within the party.
