Helicopter crash in Bentong kills one, leaves another injured

KUALA LUMPUR: A Bell 206L-4 Long Ranger helicopter caught fire while landing at Jalan Lama Kuala Lumpur-Bentong, Pahang, resulting in the death of one individual and the rescue of another.

The incident occurred near a hot spring in Bentong where the helicopter, transporting equipment for cable installation, was completely destroyed by fire.

Initial reports suggest the fire ignited during the helicopter's landing attempt, causing the aircraft to overturn and catch fire.

Bentong OCPD Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar confirmed the incident.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson reported receiving the distress call at approximately 10.39am on Thursday (Feb 6).

"The fire involved a transport helicopter, which was 100% destroyed. An Indonesian engineer died after being struck by a helicopter rotor blade. We managed to control the fire by about 11.06am, and the victim's body has been handed over to the police for further action," the spokesperson said.
