Woman died in Kota Tinggi accident

KOTA TINGGI: A 50-year-old woman was killed in a road accident involving a pickup truck and a trailer lorry carrying sand at Taman Sri Saujana here.

Jelambai Rirong, the driver of the truck, died at the scene while two of her passengers – siblings Carolynna Cynthia Robert, 13, and Franklin Xavier Robert, nine – sustained injuries in the 9.18am incident on Wednesday (Feb 5).

Two other passengers – Selina Imbat, 45, and Tatiana Teressa Robert, seven – together with the lorry driver, 25, were unharmed.

Kota Tinggi Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Saiful Afiz Sidek said six personnel were sent to the rescue.

“It was discovered that one victim was trapped inside the truck, prompting the rescue team to use hydraulic cutting tools to free the person,” he said in a statement.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said Jelambai's remains had been sent to Kota Tinggi Hospital for autopsy,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged road users to exercise caution, particularly on wet roads, and to comply with traffic regulations to prevent accidents.
