Mining graft case: Bung accuses GRS of ‘fabricated scripts’ to implicate Umno

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (pic) has accused Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) leaders of attempting to subvert the ongoing mining licences graft probe by trying to "fabricate scripts" to implicate Umno.

“This action by the GRS leader is disgraceful. Those involved will do anything — even fabricate scripts — just to stay in power,” he said in a statement.

Bung was responding to a report by a news portal in which a whistleblower claimed that a state minister allegedly offered to return the whistleblower's mining licences in exchange for altering his claims, stating that the money was for political funds.

In the report, the whistleblower claimed that he was asked to also implicate Sabah Umno assemblymen in a fresh script.

Bung said that the GRS coalition government was a sinking ship as they are finding it difficult to deny the claims made by a whistleblower whose partial videos was uploaded in November last year.

"GRS leaders are willing to fabricate narratives to protect their positions. They are in a sinking ship and trying to justify their actions by any means necessary to retain power.

“I am deeply disappointed after reading the report in the news portal," Bung said in demanding for the state minister to explain allegations on his involvement in preparing a narrative to link Sabah Umno leaders to the scandal.

“The viral video exposing corruption among Sabah assemblymen is becoming harder to deny.

“The public is beginning to see the truth, and only the most loyal party supporters are still trying to defend what has already been exposed,” he said.

Bung urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to complete its investigations into the case and take necessary action against those involved.

MACC has investigated eight Sabah assemblymen including three state ministers that were among 18 witnesses called in for questioning over the secretly recorded videos that allegedly show discussions about payments linked to the issuance of mining prospecting licences.
