Motorcyclist dies after hitting pothole on KK flyover


The motorcycle that was involved in a fatal accident after hitting a pothole on the Lido flyover in Kota Kinabalu.

KOTA KINABALU: A motorcyclist was killed after he hit a pothole and was thrown 6m along the Lido flyover here Monday (Feb 3).

The local man in his 30s died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital I at 1.30pm following the incident that occurred at around 11.15am.

Kota Kinabalu City OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda said the victim died of head and bodily injuries he sustained when he was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting a pothole on the flyover.

He said the victim was on his way from City Mall shopping centre towards the direction of Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

"We believe he was in the middle lane when he hit the pothole and lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown off," ACP Kasim said.

He said the victim was unconscious when he was taken to the hospital's emergency unit.

Police were continuing their investigations under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
