Nine-year-old boy in Kota Tinggi feared drowned after being swept away in drain


KOTA TINGGI: A nine-year-old boy is feared to have drowned after trying to retrieve his slippers that had fallen into a drain in Kota Jaya here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the incident occurred on Monday (Jan 27) at about 3pm during heavy rainfall.

“The water in the drain was deep and fast at the time. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing with the help of the Fire and Rescue Department.

“The victim, a nine-year-old boy, is believed to have fallen after trying to retrieve his slippers, which had fallen into the drain,” he said in a statement here.

Meanwhile, a Johor Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said that a statement will be issued later as the operation is still ongoing.
