Two suspects caught on CCTV in UM paint-splashing incident

KUALA LUMPUR: Two individuals are suspected to have splashed red paint at the entrance of a KK Mart outlet on Universiti Malaya (UM) grounds.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said CCTV footage showed the duo arriving near the outlet on a motorcycle on the day of the incident, Tuesday (Jan 21).

"We are in the process of identifying them.

"We also appeal to those with information to contact the police as soon as possible," he told a press conference after attending the city police monthly assembly here on Friday (Jan 24).

It was reported that UM lodged a police report on the incident.

"UM takes the paint-splashing incident that occurred at the KK Mart premises on campus very seriously," it said in a statement issued on Wednesday (Jan 22).

"UM is committed to providing full cooperation with the authorities in the investigation," it added.

UM also urged strict action against those responsible to ensure such incidents do not recur.

Recently, a sandwich pack labelled "ham & cheese" sold at a KK Concept Store in UM sparked controversy due to the use of the halal logo.

On Jan 10, two KK Super Mart outlets in UM were closed following inspections by the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.

Jakim said the sandwich packaging did not have an official halal certificate and the company that produced it is not a Malaysian halal certificate holder.

In a statement, KK Super Mart said Shake And Bake Cafe had provided a halal certificate for the chicken ham and cheese layers for reference.

Shake And Bake Cafe was also not authorised to use the KK Super Mart logo on the sandwich packaging, KK Super Mart said.
